Martha Sewing Ministry

History

As a parish nurse, I am well aware of the pain and suffering many women live with on a daily basis. If borne alone, a person's hope, spirit and health can be destroyed.

Throughout the ages, women have intuitively come together to work with their hands while sharing their hearts' burdens. Thus they received the help, wisdom, caring and love they needed to stay strong.

So, in September 2002, Mary Wachtel and I started this ecumenical, city-wide, informal women's support group in the form of a sewing ministry. In the past twelve years we have grown from 2-4 women a week to a membership of 72 ladies. We average 40-45 in attendance every Tuesday, while many others work at home.

Finished items have been given free of charge to thousands of people in need throughout the world.

If you like to sew, quilt, knit, crochet or simply enjoy creative fellowship and good desserts, you are welcome to join us.
